Tuesday was a very cute day. Children’s wear is something that is very new to me, and I am quickly realising that there is a lot more to it than adorable patterns (although that is a great part!) We have a number or children’s wear clients at Bridge & Stitch, so I am learning fast! While visiting a factory that specialised in children’s apparel, I managed to talk to some of the ladies working there. This was fascinating, as their work is so specialised they were all experts in their fields. The speed and accuracy of their sewing was incredible, especially as all the panels were so tiny! It made me want to get back on my sewing machine!
As well as this, I have dropped in on a printing company, meeting a lovely group of people who showed me around the workshop and gave me a fleeting insight into the very big world of fabric printing.
After the knitting factory I saw in my first week, I thought I knew what to expect when I visited another factory this week. However, I was surprised to see how much both the machinery and product changed between places! I was interested to find out their views on UK manufacturing, how they think the trade has changed over the years, and how this has affected fabric suppliers such as themselves.
Also, us at Bridge & Stitch are currently very excited about the new series on Channel 4 giving a wonderful insight into the world of Liberty London! Check it out if you haven’t already… http://www.channel4.com/programmes/liberty-of-london/4od?cntsrc=sn_brands-share_twitter#3617647 Enjoy!
So yes, a week packed full of fabric, factories and alotta romper suits. I’ll be back next week to tell you all about what Bridge & Stitch have been getting up to!
