The third stage of the Production Process that we work to is sourcing fabric and trims for your garments. Your designs will have been finalised and drawn up. It’s time to start getting the physical components of your garments together! We have a grand total of 11 folders full of fabric samples (and a range of trim samples) we can show you to help you decide your fabric choice.
We have an extensive database of fabric and trim suppliers to cater to your every need. This includes stock fabrics, and custom made fabrics of the colour, weight, and composition of your choice. The possibilities are endless!
There is also a large variety within trims.
This includes different types of elastic, which can be customised! They can come in different lengths, widths, colours, and patterns.
There are many different buttons we can source for you, including engraved buttons. They come in different sizes, shapes, colours, and materials.
Many different types of lace can be sourced. We recently worked on a project sourcing broderie anglaise.
Different types of zip include nylon coil, metal, plastic moulded, invisible, and waterproof (not shown here). They can come in different colours and lengths. We can also customise zip pulls for you.
Rubber tabs are often used on garments as a design feature, or an alternative to a brand label. This is quite common in sportswear and t-shirts. These can be made from PVC or silicone, depending on your budget.
Aglets, for the end of draw cords, can come in metal, plastic, rubber.
Different sized and shaped eyelets are available. The most common type is a round metal eyelet. Did you know you have 144 metal and finishing options to choose from – from rusted copper to tin oxide.
Drawcords come in different lengths and colours. Cotton cord is relatively commonly used.
Flock can be used to add design features to your garment. It has a soft, fuzzy texture. It is commonly seen on baseball jackets.
We can help you with patchworks, for example leather patches on jeans.
We can source back neck tape and ribbons for you – these can also be customised!
We can source shoulder pads to insert into your garments.
Fusing can be used to stiffen and give shape to your garment. For example, this is commonly used in collars and cuffs.
Fastenings such as toggles, buckles, hook and eyes, velcro, poppers, including nickel free poppers for baby wear, and more, are used for the openings of your garment.
Along with this vast list, there are many, many, many more trims we can help you to source for your garment.
Your choices will depend on your budget. It is important to be price conscious whilst still choosing fabric and trims with the properties your garment requires.
Lead times for fabric and trim sourcing can be much longer than expected, particularly when specific fabrics, trims, and colours are requested. We advise this process starts as soon as possible.
