Interview with Gavin Ellys, founder of Gelsu Sportswear
Meet Gelsu Sportswear!
We met with Gelsu sportswear founder Gavin Ellys to learn how he launched his own ethical sportswear brand specialising in stylish high-end quality UK-made garments born, designed, and made in England. The products handled during interview, are of high-quality and the heavy thick hoodie, very snug and stylish!
How did Gelsu come about?
For years I had wanted to produce a Made in the UK recycled, organic cotton sportswear brand, a collection of base layers, hoodies, and socks. I saw nothing like that around in the UK. I’m a trained accountant with a degree in Finance and a passion for Sports and Sports clothing. It’s important to me that clothes are sustainable and of good quality. I always felt there was a gap for sustainable sportswear in the UK.
How did Bridge & Stitch help?
After some years of wanting to make sport shirts, technical, recycled and British I approached Bridge & Stitch. There are very few factories around making tech clothing in small quantities and I didn’t know how to reach them. In 2019 I needed help with the whole project and wanted to pursue UK production. I spoke to a few agencies. Bridge & Stitch were the best. They helped with strategy, storyboard, factories, fabric in small quantities, designs and tech packs. I didn’t have the time and wanted someone to take it over for a while. We made hoodies, bottoms, base layers, and socks.
What stood out with Bridge & Stitch?
Bridge and Stitch’s huge network of UK fabric suppliers and factories stood out. I was impressed with how they could locate the right factories for my premium sportswear brand. We used the same factory Velobici use and quality fabric, which makes the garment comfy and long-lasting. Rachael produced tech packs and contributed with fantastic marketing campaign ideas.
What’s next for you?
I’m currently looking to form a partnership with a silent partner so that the Gelsu brand can go next level. A lot of development has already been done to date. From the unique designs to registered brand, patented strategy, and business asset. We’ve no debt. The website is ready to go live any time. The brand needs someone with the time to devote to it, which I don’t currently have now as a new father. Anyone reading this wishing to discuss GELSU, please do get in touch!
How would you sum Bridge & Stitch up in 3 words?
Creative, innovative, trailblazers.
