This is the first in a series of blog posts which will outline each section of our production process at Bridge and Stitch. Hopefully this will help you to understand a bit more about what we do and how we can help you.
The first stage of the process is Design Development.
This is where we start with most of our clients. Here we work with anything from initial sketches, mood boards or imagery, fabric examples, example garments, through to completed designs – basically any image evidence you have!
We can discuss a product’s function and make adjustments to fulfil it. We can advise on appropriate design details, for example fastenings and finishes. We can also help pick suitable fabrics, for example, advise on the best fabrics with properties lending themselves to sportswear. Where possible, we do all of this to suit your budget.
If your budget isn’t compatible with your design, we can offer advice on changes to the design to suit your budget; for example, a cheaper fabric with similar properties, a simpler, more efficient design, or technical changes such as a different seam type.
Designs are then finalised with a good idea of fabrics, trims and embellishments. Finishes will be discussed and agreed upon at this point. It’s as simple as that!
Small orders will need designing 3-6 months in advance of final completion, and large orders will need designing 9-12 months in advance.
Be sure to keep an eye out for the rest of the series of blog posts. You can also check out a brief overview of the stages of our production process on our website.
