Interview with Liz, founder of Hues Clothing
Elizabeth approached Bridge & Stitch looking for support with the full manufacturing process. She wanted to develop her brand concept into a finished collection ready for retail. We sat down with Liz to find out more about her childrenswear brand which focuses on a rainbow of colours and versatile styles that never change, allowing you to replace the styles you love.
Where did the idea for HUES Clothing begin?
I wanted base clothes in tones and hues that matched, with the aim of building a rainbow of colours and styles that will always be stocked so that you can always buy your favourites again. For a decade we have been crafting costume ideas for our children and I have spent hours searching the internet for essential clothes that can form the start of any fancy dress outfit. Yellow for mustard and fries, green for alien, red for ketchup etc. This has proved a challenge over the years, so my husband and I decided to start HUES Clothing, offering core styles that are comfortable, high quality, fun, and wearable for many occasions.
What were the challenges you faced?
With no relevant industry experience, I didn’t know where to start. I’d gone to trade shows, but I was lost. My boss, who was a great supporter of my business idea, was a firm believer that you should outsource anything you are not an expert in. If you aren’t the expert, there are people out there who are, and you are better off paying for their time and saving your time for doing what you do best. Bridge & Stitch was that expert with the knowledge I didn’t have. They knew where to go, what fabrics I needed and had the factory suitable for my products.
What stood out for you at Bridge & Stitch?
Bridge & Stitch was able to simplify down the process for me and make everything clear, communicating what needed to be done and when. They were easy to work with and clear on pricing, breaking down costs and how the process works. I liked that my garments would be Made in Britain as it was important to me that our clothes are sourced and made ethically, with a low carbon footprint. This is a big part of our story and Bridge & Stitch were able to help me tell that story.
How would you sum up Bridge & Stitch in 3 words?
A supportive, simple process
What is next for HUES Clothing?
We have just launched! We are on Instagram and Facebook. There should be some pop ups in the Spring, so look out for these in London! TikTok will also be our next challenge as we want to demonstrate how you can be creative and crafty with our clothes, to link it back to the origins of the brand.
